Viking Water Transportation

Viking boats with rowers, even the name Russian means row people, because of the phonetic sound created as rows sailed through the water when Vikings from the north invaded what is now Russia on raids. The locals along the water called them Russ, because of the russelling sound created when their rows hit the water. The people had never seen a military force utilize their ships the way the row people maneuvered for war over land.
