North Korea and South Korea

Korea was bitter cold during the war against the Communist North and southern peninsula. North Korea’s leader Kim personally traveled to Moscow to seek help from Joseph Stalin in 1949. My father was in high school when the Principal announced that the Communist North Koreans had invaded South Korea. The children were sent home, but my father had to catch up with his mother as families evacuated. The military went to the schools to ask for language translators. My father was gifted with the ability to speak many languages. He was the first to recruited to live with G.I.s stationed at U.S. bases in South Korea.
